VW Golf Mk7 and Mk8 Upgrade Guide: Lighting, Aero, Paddles and Intakes

The Golf Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 GTI and R have a huge range of bolt-on upgrades. This guide covers the ones people ask us about most: lighting, aero, paddles and intake parts. It also explains the fitment differences that catch people out.

Lighting

Lighting changes the look of a Golf more than almost anything else, and it bolts in.

• Mk7.5 R-style sequential LED tail lights for Mk7 and Mk7.5 hatches
• Mk7.5 R-style sequential LED headlights. Tell us which headlights your car has now, as the wiring differs between halogen, Xenon and LED cars.
• Mk8 R-style sequential LED tail lights for the Mk8
• RGB DRL modules for the Mk7 GTI and R and the Mk8, which let you change the daytime running light colour

Aero

Zero Offset's EVO-1 range covers the Mk7 GTI and the Mk8 GTI and R, as individual pieces or full kits:

• EVO-1 full kit for the Mk7 GTI (2013 to 2017)
• EVO-1 full kit for the Mk8 GTI and Mk8 R
• Separate front lips, side splitters and rear diffusers if you want to build up over time
• An Oettinger-style roof spoiler for the Mk7 and Mk7.5

The Mk8.5 has its own front lips, as the facelift changed the bumper.

Interior: paddle shifters

Paddle extensions are one of the cheapest upgrades you'll touch on every drive. Leyo Motorsport makes several for DSG cars:

• Billet paddle shift extension Gen 2 for the Mk7 GTI and R
• Fusion paddle shift replacement for the Mk7 and Mk7.5
• Clear paddle shift extension for the Mk8 GTI

Engine bay

For the EA888 2.0 TSI, Leyo's intake and charge-air parts are a good base before or alongside a tune:

• Cold air intake system V2 for the Mk7, Mk7.5 and Mk8 GTI
• MQB turbo charge pipe, which replaces the factory plastic pipe
• Blow off valve kit and oil catch can kit V3
• For the Mk8 R: the MQB EVO cold air intake and turbo inlet pipe
